No matter what kind of vacation you seek—relaxing or invigorating—you can find activities in the North Georgia Mountains to suit you. The region is blessed with the Chattahoochee, the Cherokee, and the Nantahala National Forests, all with breathtaking views and lush forests that allow you to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Nature trails can be traversed by foot or by horseback; plenty of horse ranches, stables, and horseback riding lessons are available in the North Georgia area. Of course, you may also wish to take part in mountain biking, hiking, and scenic drives. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad takes visitors on a 3 1/2-hour, 26-mile tour through the mountains, including a 1 1/2 hour stop on the Georgia/Tennessee state line at McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN.
There are numerous historical museums in the Blue Ridge region. Pick apples, berries, or pumpkins at one of the many farms and orchards in the area. Golf courses are abundant, with dozens of mountainside championship golf courses to choose from. Golf courses in North Georgia offer fantastic views of the mountains and nature, from Brasstown Valley Golf Club in Blairsville to Whitepath Golf Club, between Blue Ridge and Ellijay.
There are tons of rivers and lakes throughout the North Georgia region, including naturally formed lakes as well as manmade bodies of water constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Boat access ramps, boat rentals, marinas, state parks, picnic facilities, and resorts are always close at hand. Or, if you'd rather cruise the rapids, try the Toccoa River, which becomes the Ocoee River when it crosses the Tennessee border. It runs through the Cherokee National Forest and includes Class III and Class IV rapids, attracting novices and pros alike. For a more leisurely cruise, there's always tubing on the Toccoa or canoes for rent on the nearby Hiawassee and Conasauga Rivers. We offer lakefront cabins and vacation homes on the river's edge so you can enjoy these and other activities on your North Georgia vacation.
